ODFHS celebrates 45 years
Ormskirk and District Family History Society was formed in February 1980 as a focus for local and genealogical interests, since then it has gone from strength to strength and we invite you to look back on some of the milestones of the last 45 years as we celebrate both our current achievements and those who have contributed so much towards making ODFHS the well established group it is today.
If you have any photographs, memories or documents which you would like to share, please get in touch.

2018 Mayor unveils historic court nameplate
The Mayor of West Lancashire, Cllr Neil Furey, along with the mayoress, Mrs. Julie Furey unveiled the newly restored Court 8 sign in May 2018.
Joseph MacDonald age 9, a pupil at Ormskirk Church of England Primary School presented the mayoress with a bouquet of flowers.
The mayor thanked Ormskirk and District Family History Society on behalf of West Lancashire Borough Council for instigating the return of the sign. Chairman Bill Huyton (red sweatshirt) represented ODFHS and was instrumental in organising the renovation.
Court No. 8 in Aughton Street was knocked down during the early 1960s. John Shaw passed the sign on to the society, after his father rescued it from a tip over 50 years ago. For many years it was located on Mr. Shaw's house wall.
Morrison's store, which now occupies the sight were Court No. 8 once stood, funded the renovation and agreed to the sign being sited near its original location on the store's perimeter wall.
