Ormskirk Parish Church MI's
This is the Parish Church of Ormskirk and is the only church know to have a Tower & a Steeple at the same end. The Tower (& it's bells) was brought from Burscough Priory at the dissolution of the Monasteries in the time of Henry VIII. Scarisbrick – St. Elizabeth R.C (inc photos of all headstones)
First, catholic services took place at Scarisbrick Hall (see CD of BMD records) then St. Mary's was built on this site. Ormskirk Parish Church, Old Section (to 1848) & Middle Section (1848-1899). Grave Owners & details of graves & original position of 80% of stones
In the later-1800's the Parish Church of Ormskirk began a "modernisation". The gravestones around the church were lifted and laid as paths (some being laid face-down). No proper records were kept of the work. The ODFHS found various records & work over a period of 2 years resulted in identifying most of the spaces from where stones had been removed. A grave-diggers notebook furnished details of most grave owners, their occupations and many internments (about 1844 to 1909).
